The palace itself was constructed by the Travancore Royal Family & was used by them to entertain their guests. It is now used as a popular venue to hold cultural performances. Kanakakkunnu Palace is the India's first digital garden in a public place, created by Akhilesh S. V. Nair and A. Gangaprasad, University of Kerala, Department of Botany.
