Zoological park in Thiruvananthapuram | Thiruvananthapuram Zoo

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is one of the oldest of its kind in India. Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, who ruled Travancore between 1830 and 1847, established a menagerie where royal tigers, panthers, cheetahs, deer, boar, and other wild animals were kept. His brother Uthram Thirunal and British Resident William Cullen formally established the zoo in 1857 as an annex to the Napier Museum.


The park is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00 hrs. It is closed on Mondays.

Entrance fee for adults is Rs. 20 and children between 5 - 12 years areRs. 5. Camera permit costs Rs. 50/-

Once you enter the zoo on your right you have to find a black Langoor known as Nilgiri langoor. Futher you get a chance to witness One Horned Rhino, Hippopotamus, Indian Gaur, Albino Antelope, Ostrich, Pelicans, Albino Ostrich, Griffon Vulture, Himalayan Vulture, Serpent eagle, Brahaminy Kite, Shekhru, Leopard, White Tiger, Asiatic Lion. The Main attaraction here is the Green Anaconda. So this is definitely the place to visit.
