This temple is also called as Muppandal avvayaramman temple. You can find the avvayaramman temple very next to Esakki amman kovil But avvayaramman temple is not well maintained. Muppandal is a small village which is 25 km North of nagercoil town of Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

This is located in between Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari Highway (NH). The kings erected pandals (mandapams) in the respective places allotted to them and this eventually led to the place being called Muppandal (meaning 'three pandals').
