Chandrashkehara Temple

ಶ್ರೀ ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ / Chandrashekara Temple in the Royal Center

Chandrashekara Temple at Hampi is located near the Queen's Bath and on the way to Saraswathi Temple. Chandrasekhara Temple is an ancient monument that is part of the Hampi Citadel area. It is one of the first Vijayanagara structures the visitors would encounter when they enter the Citadel area from Kamalapuram. In fact, this temple was on the ancient road that led to the Peddangadi veedi from Kamalapuram.

Dated to the 16th century AD and dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is built in the typical dwikuta style. Shaiva dwarapalas adorn the doorway of the shrine. The east-facing shrine has a Dravida vimana with a circular stupa, whereas the south-facing Amman (Devi) shrine has a salasikhara.
