It is believed by locals that Lord Rama and Lakshmana were crossing the Brahmagiri forest Range searching for Sita, who was kidnapped. Rama asked Lakshmana for water to drink but Lakshmana could not find any water around. So Lakshmana shot an arrow into Brahmagiri Hill and this led to the origin of Lakshmana Tirtha River. The scenic location of the cascade makes it an attractive trekking destination too.
