Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary
Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary

Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary is a 128.10-hectare area located in Vaduvoor lake, Mannargudi Taluk, Thiruvarur. The sanctuary attracts more than 40 species of water birds like the woite ibis, painted stork, grey pelican, pintails, cormorants, teals, herons, spoonbills, darters, coots, Open bill storks, and pheasant–tailed jacana. The sanctuary is a favorite spot for the migratory birds and during the months of November and December more than 20000 winged visitors reach this area.

The Udayamarthandapuram-bird-sanctuary is a 44-hectare sanctuary protected by the forest department has recorded 115 bird species so far has started receiving birds from mid-June. Among over 9000 birds that have arrived at the sanctuary, White Ibis birds are in large numbers besides Painted stork,Spot billed duck and Coot.

Muthupet Mangrove Forest

Muthupet Lagoon is located at the southern end of the Cauvery river delta on the Bay of Bengal, covering an area of approximately 6,803.01 ha of which only 4% is occupied by well-grown mangroves.The marshy land in Muthupet is the main tourist attraction in this area. This scenic spot is always evergreen with mangrove forest trees, in a sprawling area of 120 square kms. It is a wonderful sight for the tourists to see the wide expanse of backwater and the mangrove forests dotting over the entire area. Along with the deep rooted mangrove trees the other kinds of trees like Thandal, Thillai, Narikanthal, Neermulli also grow and add to the beauty of the lagoon. This lagoon has seventy-three colourful varieties of fish.
