Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary is a 128.10-hectare area located in Vaduvoor lake, Mannargudi Taluk, Thiruvarur. The sanctuary attracts more than 40 species of water birds like the woite ibis, painted stork, grey pelican, pintails, cormorants, teals, herons, spoonbills, darters, coots, Open bill storks, and pheasant–tailed jacana. The sanctuary is a favorite spot for the migratory birds and during the months of November and December more than 20000 winged visitors reach this area.
The Udayamarthandapuram-bird-sanctuary is a 44-hectare sanctuary protected by the forest department has recorded 115 bird species so far has started receiving birds from mid-June. Among over 9000 birds that have arrived at the sanctuary, White Ibis birds are in large numbers besides Painted stork,Spot billed duck and Coot.
Muthupet Lagoon is located at the southern end of the Cauvery river delta on the Bay of Bengal, covering an area of approximately 6,803.01 ha of which only 4% is occupied by well-grown mangroves.The marshy land in Muthupet is the main tourist attraction in this area. This scenic spot is always evergreen with mangrove forest trees, in a sprawling area of 120 square kms. It is a wonderful sight for the tourists to see the wide expanse of backwater and the mangrove forests dotting over the entire area. Along with the deep rooted mangrove trees the other kinds of trees like Thandal, Thillai, Narikanthal, Neermulli also grow and add to the beauty of the lagoon. This lagoon has seventy-three colourful varieties of fish.
Thyagaraja Temple is a Shiva temple, located in the town of Thiruvarur. Shiva is worshiped as Puttridankondar, and is represented by the lingam. Occupying a huge land with the largest temple tank in India ''Kamalalayam tank'' (covering 25 acres) to its west Sri Thygaraja Swamy (Shiva) temple is not only a popular one in the delta district but also a massive one with countless sub shrines. The shrine in the middle of the vast tank is dedicated to Naganathar.This temple has the rare distinction of having maximum number of shrines (called sannithis in Tamil) in the whole of India
Koothanur Maha Saraswathi Temple is a Hindu temple located in the town of Koothanur in the Tiruvaru. The temple is Tamil Nadu’s only Hindu temple with Saraswathi as main deity. Praises of the temple were sung by Tamil poets Ottakoothar and Kambar.Blessed with the beningn looks of Goddess Kalaimagal, and the betel mouth Blessings of “Then Kani vagadevi”, Ottakoothar became a poet with the ability to compose rhythmic poems.
Sri Aabhatsakayeswarar Temple is dedicated for Lord Guru (Dhakshinamoorthy). Located in Alangudi village, is a very powerful temple. Lord Guru is considered one of the most important grahas (planets).
Mudikondan Kothandaramar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Rama located at Mudikondan Village in Thiruvarur District. The temple and the village that surrounds are believed to be at least 20 centuries old. It is one of the ancient temples in South India. It is dedicated to Lord Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Rama is depicted in the attire of a king in this temple.
Vanchinadha Swamy temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in Srivanchiyam, Tiruvarur. Shiva is worshiped as Vanchinadha Swamy, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Mangalambigai Amman.
