Kalugumalai jain rock beds | Ayyanar temple | கழுகுமலை ஜெயின் படுக்கைகள்
One gem which is still hidden in Thoothukudi district, i am not sure why it is still not reached to the people. Its amazing place of heritage value, which is not very well known tourist circuit. One side of the rocky cliff is fully covered with caved Tirtankaras, yakshis and there are plenty of inscriptions of historic value.
Kalugumalai Jain Beds are dated to the 8th century based on palaeographic and literary evidence, during the reign of Pandya king. When great Jaina teachers had schools here. Close to this cliff there is an Ayyanar temple, this also a cave temple.
