Sangara Narayana Swamy Temple is located at Sanakaran Kovil, Thenkasi District. Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu jointly appear as a single Idol is specialty at this temple. Among the Pancha shrines in Pandya Nadu, this shrine is dedicated for sand. This temple has a place of PuliDevan who was one among the initial stages of Indian freedom fightings begins with at the year of 1741 at Ukkiran Kottai.
This temple was built by Ukkira Pandiya Thevar in the 11th century AD and Rajagopuram was built by Seevala Pandian which is rising to a height of 135 feet with nine tiers.
There is a circle in front of Gomathi Amman Sannidhi. If the devotees sit at this circle and worship, wishes will get fulfilled. The "Naga Sunai" Theertham created by Naga Kings("Sangan" and "Paduman").The ant-hill sand is offered as Prasad, people believe that is capable of curing all the diseases. Devotees facing problems due to the presence of poisonous creatures in their houses as lizards, scorpions and snakes offer silver pieces embossed with the images of such creatures for solution.

Once upon a time there were Naga kings named "Sangan" and "Paduman". Sangan was devoted to Lord Shiva and Paduman was very devoted to Vishnu. The two always fought over which god was greater between the two of them. approached the Yogini (Parvati) Devi. Impressed with the fact that both Shiva and Vishnu are equal, Parvati does penance and appeals to them to show the Word with their united appearance. As a result Shiva and Vishnu appeared as 'Sankara Narayana'. Lord Shiva accepted Ambal's wish and appeared as Shankaralingam. Both the Naga kings worshiped Shankara Lingam for a long time. Over the years the lingam was covered with an anthill. The Naga kings were inside. A farmer tried to demolish an anthill Bleeding. He got nervous and peeked into the ant hill and saw the lingam there. Hearing this news, the Ukkira Pandiyan king built a temple for the Lord.
