Valluvar Kottam is one such historical monument which is dedicated to the well-known intellectual poet, philosopher and saint, Thiruvalluvar. The construction of the Valluvar Kottam was conceived and executed by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi. A very unique feature of the Valluvar Kottam is that it stands baseless, without the support of any pillar. The chariot is made of around 3000 blocks of granite stone from Tiruvannamalai. Valluvar statue is inside of this chariot. The bottom portion of the chariot features bas relief sculptures depicting all the 133 chapters of the Kural text. The lion on the main gateway of the Kottam is very remarkable which decorated with attractive designs.
