Dodda Basavana Gudi | பெரிய நந்தி மூர்த்தி உருவம்
Dodda Basavana Gudi is situated in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. This temple is near to Bugal rock park and Dodda Ganesha Temple. The idol of Nandi in this temple is said to be one of the biggest in the world with a height of around 4.6 metres and a length of about 6.1 metres. The idol of Nandi is carved from a single stone of granite and a Shivalingam behind it.
The Nandi statue appears to be black in color. The iron plate on the bull’s head has been placed by Lord Shiva to stop the idol from growing. Vrishabhavathi River is also said to originate from the base of Nandi.
History of of the Bull Temple:
Long years back this place was big cultiivation of groundnuts. At harvest time a bull came and damaged all. This happened day by day so the farmers became worried and eventually decided to build a temple. After construct temple bull was disappeared. So farmers became happy and gave first harvest groundnuts to temple. On that day onwards farmers giving groundnuts to this temple. This festival is called "Kadalekai Parase" held in the months of November or December.
After that this temple is impliment in the year 1537 by a ruler named Kempe Gowda, who is famous as the founder of Karnataka’s capital city, Bengaluru.
