The Ranganathaswamy temple or Rangasthala as it is known is situated 5km down Chikkaballapur towards the Gauribidanur village. This has been built by the Hoysala kings. Gopuram built by the Vijayanagara kings and recently renovated by the efforts of Devotees.
The main deity is in Sleeping position with "Bhoodevi" and "Neela Devi" about 4 and half feet long and is carved out of a single “Saligrama” stone. History has it that the idols of this temple as well as that of Srirangam and Srirangapatna were installed on the same day.
A unique feature of the “Garbha griha” or sanctum sanctorum is that, it is in the shape of a bamboo basket. Temple has 2 temple tanks.
