Kurathiyarai Vishnu Rock Cut Cave Temple, Kanyakumari
Kurathiyarai is a rock cut cave Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Its located 17Km distance from Nagercoil. The cave is excavated on the south side slope of the hillock. This hills is called Kurathiyarai, Kuranvanthattuparai, Chenthiparai and Anju giri as per record.
Valampuri Vinayagar is on the left side and the right side niche a faint image was visible. Now Devotees kept "Vel" thats why faint image we can called faint image as Lord Muruga. On ground more sculptures there Elephant, Nagas and Amman Idol.
The local people worships the faint image / unfinished as Avvaiyaramman. Tuesdays of Tamil month Aadi is believed to be a auspicious and “kolukattai” is being offered. It was learnt that Avvai nonbu or Avvai Vratham is also observed in many parts of Kanyakumari District.

As per the experts, the name of this place Kurathiyarai, might have been obtained from the Jainism, since Jain nuns are called as Kurathi.
As per the inscription in Chitharal Rock Jain Temple, In 8th Century Jain women teachers are called as Kurathi and Jain Gens teachers are called as Kuravan. Thats why this place is called Kurathiyarai or Kuranvanthattuparai.
