Sri Govindarajaswamy Temple, Tirupathi , Tamilnadu
Sri Govindarajaswamy Temple is an ancient temple situated near to theTirupati railway station. The temple was built in 12 century and was consecrated in year 1130 AD by Saint Ramanujacharya. The temple at current is being administered by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. This temple has Big complex. Temple tank is situated 300 meters away from main entrance Gopura.
It is believed that Devotees who wants to do trip to get Darshan of Tirupati Balaji, They should first visit this temple because this temple main deity is called as Brother of Tirumala Balaji, second visit Padmavati temple, Third should visit Varaha swamy temple. Afterthat visit Lord Balaji in Tirumala.
The main deity will be in reclining yoga nidra posture, facing east with Sridevi and Bhudevi. The temple has other sub shrines in it. Parthasarathy temple, Kalyana Venkateswara Temple are of more importance among the sub-shrines. There are also shrines dedicated to Pundarikavalli, Andal, Chakratalwar, Alwars, Lakshmi Narayana Swamy, Anjaneya, Tirumala Nambi, Bhashyakars.
It is believed that during invasion of Govindaraja Perumal Temple in Chidambaram, the Utsava murti(processional deity) was brought to Tirupati for safe keeping. The Utsavamurtis were taken back after the invasions.
